Waterfalls and More at Chesapeake and Ohio National Historical Park

On a whim, my husband and I ended up at Chesapeake and Ohio National Historical Park in Potomac, MD on a brisk fall day when admission was free. We spent a few hours at the crowded park looking to create some unique images. We'd been there with our cameras many times before and created the typical landscape image of the water and rocks that are sandwiched between the Maryland and Virginia sides. I knew with this trip that I wanted to focus on something different and focus on the details of my surroundings, as well as the reflections and silky textures of the water.

My emotions turned from excitement to disappointment when my husband spotted a huge vulture relaxing on a tree branch, and I realized that I didn't have a long enough lens to capture its detail. I used what I had in my camera bag and took a few (or maybe a hundred) shots anyway. Needless to say, those images didn't make the cut. Here are the ones that did.
